Success Story

From the First 3D Metal Printer to the Fourth Installation

Two years ago, our collaboration with NEO Lab, based in Andover, Massachusetts, began with the installation of their first 3D metal printing system. But our approach goes far beyond simply delivering machines – from day one, we worked closely with NEO Lab to develop a customized solution that seamlessly integrates 3D printing into their production.

Installation at NEOlab

Thanks to this close cooperation, NEO Lab was able to start production on the very first day of installation – because that’s exactly what 2onelab stands for: ready-to-use, well-thought-out solutions that create real value.

Who is NEO Lab?

As one of the largest and most experienced orthodontic laboratories, with over 40 years of expertise, NEO Lab produces a wide range of orthodontic components – including 3D-printed elements. Their decision to adopt 3D printing was driven by the significant efficiency gains and workflow simplifications it offers.

Why did NEO Lab choose 3D printing?

Traditionally, manufacturing Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPEs) involved a labor-intensive process. With the shift to 3D printing, this process has been significantly optimized:

  • The entire RPE can now be digitally designed with AI-assisted software, eliminating the need for manual bending in this specific application.
  • The printed parts are ready for use, requiring only one welding step—attaching the expander itself.
  • This has allowed NEO Lab to free up four technicians who can now focus on other tasks, while wire bending remains an essential process for other orthodontic applications.

Workflow Optimizations

By leveraging 3D printing, NEO Lab has not only reduced production time but also freed up valuable skilled labor, allowing their team to focus on high-value tasks instead of repetitive manual work.

Print Time and Efficiency

Our close collaboration has paid off: Today, NEO Lab is operating their fourth 2onelab system – and this time, it’s the new 2Create Plus.

With a 150 mm build platform, the system can accommodate 12 large RPEs, which can be printed in just about 3 hours – nearly matching the output of three smaller systems combined.

As Christian Saurman from Neo Lab puts it:

“A compact machine, easy to set up and use, with consistently high product quality – we couldn’t ask for more.”

We are proud to be part of NEO Lab’s journey, helping them optimize their workflows and achieve success with tailored solutions. This long-term partnership not only demonstrates NEO Lab’s commitment to innovation and top-tier quality, but also underscores how essential close collaboration is in setting new standards in digital orthodontic manufacturing.

A huge thank you to the entire NEO Lab team for their trust and outstanding partnership – we look forward to many more successes together! 🚀
