Efficient Manufacturing of Telescopic Work – Digital and Hybrid

Learn how our 2Create metal 3D printer can be used for an alternative approach manufacturing telescopic work.

We have installed the 2Create at Claudio Milana Dental Laboratory with our partner Albus Technology – and for us, an installation is more than just setting up a machine. We ensure that the system not only runs but is also used productively. To achieve this, we work closely with our partners, make necessary process adjustments, and optimize parameters together to achieve the best possible results.

Our PBF 3D printers 2Create and 2Create Plus utilize laser beam melting (SLM) and offer precision, efficiency, speed, material variety, cost benefits, and versatile applications.

An Alternative Approach to Manufacture Telescopic Work

There are various approaches producing telescopic work:

1️. Classic Method: The primary element is printed, polished, and scanned. Based on the scan, the secondary element is designed in CAD and then milled from a disc.

2. Hybrid Method: The primary element is printed with an allowance and then milled to the exact dimensions to ensure optimal fit and friction. This method offers an alternative to the traditional full milling of telescopes and enables an efficient combination of additive and subtractive manufacturing. After printing, the primary element is polished, bonded to the model, and digitally captured using a 3D scan. This scan serves as the basis for designing the secondary element.

An alternative approach used by this laboratory is to utilize the secondary element directly after printing instead of milling it. Why does this work? Because this method requires a high level of printing precision, which can be achieved with the 2Create. As a result, subtractive post-processing is no longer necessary, further optimizing the manufacturing process. The 2Create is particularly well-suited for this application, enabling precise execution.

Thanks to precise process parameters, the 2Create can often eliminate the need for post-processing. If required, the hybrid process remains an option. This gives dental laboratories the flexibility to choose between methods as needed, allowing them to maximize the benefits of each strategy.

  • High precision already in the printing process
  • Secondary elements can be used directly after printing
  • Friction can be adjusted by modifying laser parameters

More Flexibility in the Manufacturing Process

By precisely tuning the process parameters, the 2Create achieves exceptional accuracy, often eliminating the need for additional post-processing. At the same time, the hybrid process remains an option when further adjustments are required. This flexibility allows laboratories to choose the approach that best suits their needs.

This digital workflow is now standard in modern dental labs, gradually replacing traditional manual methods with a more efficient and precise process chain.

We are proud to support Claudio Milana Dental Laboratory in implementing innovative digital workflows in practice.

More precision. More flexibility. New possibilities with 2Create.
